Old Map Fonts » Geographica |
Thomas Jefferys (ca. 17101771) was the best-known map maker in 18th-century England, chiefly because he won (and hyped) the title “Geographer to King George III.” When I first laid eyes on Jefferys’s maps of North America, I found the hand-lettering and embellishments so captivating that I began then and there to envision what would eventually become Geographica, a four-style serif family.
Geographica combines a sort of hand-drawn warmth with a distinctly historical flair. Its long serifs and ample x-height will add classic elegance to long blocks of text or display type, whether on paper or screen. Comes also with a slew of unique cartographic ornaments and is packed with OpenType featuresmore than 1,200 glyphs in all.* $99 | Order |
*OpenType features include true small caps, two stylistic sets of titling caps, contextual and discretionary ligatures, lining and old-style figures, cartographic ornaments, and full support for Central and Eastern European languages. |
