Houston Pen Opentype
Houston Pen™

Early Texas patriots had fascinating penmanship. In researching Texas Hero™ years ago, I had occasion to pore over copies of letters by the likes of Stephen F. Austin, William B. Travis, Thomas J. Rusk, and others. Austin’s hand seemed too challenging (but later inspired Austin Pen). Young, brave Travis wrote his last during the Alamo siege. Rusk’s suited my original task. But another style caught my eye—the bold yet graceful strokes of Sam Houston, the Texas hero. Much like the man himself, Houston Pen exudes a certain grandness, openness, clarity, and style.* $39 | Order  Buy old fontsU.S. Senator Sam Houston

To learn a little more about Sam Houston, visit The Antique Penman—our blog celebrating handwriting and old letters—where Brian Willson devotes an installment (“Sam Houston Talks”) to Houston’s many correspondences with Native Americans during his two terms as President of the Republic of Texas (1836–38, 1841–44). For exhaustive information about the man, visit The Handbook of Texas Online.

*OpenType features of Houston Pen™ include numerous discretionary ligatures, contextual alternates, lining and old-style figures, and complete Central/Eastern European alphabets.
